Golf Cart, Bicycle and Moped Rentals
There’s no doubt that renting a golf cart is the best way to get around Put in Bay Island. Not only are they a convenient mode of transportation, they’re fun for adults and kids alike. Besides, how often is it that you can take a golf cart on the roads to get to wherever you’re going? Golf carts can seat 2-4 or 6-8 people. Renting mopeds is another great way to see PIB island; or, if you want to get some exercise while you’re here you also have the option of renting a bike. The best place to get carts, bikes and mopeds is at Delaware Golf Cart and Bike Rental, located in downtown Put in Bay at the Edgewater Hotel. Reservations are recommended and may be made at:

Aquatic Visitors Center
The Aquatic Visitors Center offers free fishing equipment and a public dock to fish off of with no license needed. It’s a great place to take the kids to learn about area marine life, with live fish displays, hands-on exhibits, videos, a playroom, activities and the former state hatchery. Kids will learn while they’re having fun. Admission to the center is free from late May through September.

DiRivera Park
DiRivera Park in downtown Put in Bay offers a beautiful view of the harbor and Delaware Avenue. There’s no better place to sit and relax after a busy day. Picnic tables make for a great place to bring lunch (bring it from home or pick it up from a place downtown). Kids can use up any extra energy on the playground or by climbing on the monuments, especially the cannons. The bathhouse is open to the public if you’re in need of a quick shower.

Heineman’s Winery/ Crystal Cave
Who knew that drinking wine could be a learning experience? The Heinemans give tours of the winery and explain how wine is made, then let you taste the finished product in their beautiful wine garden. We can’t forget to mention Crystal Cave, the world’s largest geode, which is also located at the winery and is part of the tour.

Kayak the Bay
Kayaking the bay can be a relaxing way to enjoy the harbor or an exciting way to get out on the lake. Choose from single or double sit-on-top or sit-in kayaks that you can take around the island. Take a relaxing trip or have an exciting adventure! Tubes and floats can also be rented.

Kimberly’s Carousel
For only $1.50, you can take a ride on an original 1917 Herschel carousel, one of the last merry-go-rounds in the country that’s still up and running. Kids love riding the cow, chicken, rooster, horse and pig, but any islander will tell you that Put-in-Bay’s favorite animal on the carousel is Pete the Perch. You can buy tickets next door at the Carriage House.

Lake Erie Islands Historical Society Museum
The Lake Erie Islands Historical Society Museum offers a comprehensive history of not only Put in Bay and South Bass Island, but all the other islands too. The museum’s three buildings showcase information on winemaking, the Hotel Victory’s rise and fall, island genealogy and the ships that have sailed Lake Erie. On top of this, the historical society sponsors tours, children’s events, Elderhostels and lectures.

Perry Peace Memorial and Visitors Center
The Perry Peace Memorial and Visitors Center was built in honor of Oliver Hazard Perry, who defeated the British in a huge naval battle on Lake Erie that played a key role in the American victory in the War of 1812. Today visitors can travel 317 feet up to the top of the monument to take in a spectacular view of the lake and the shores of Ohio, Michigan and Ontario. At the base of the monument, park rangers give living history demonstrations.

Parasailing the bay offers a totally different way to see the island and the lake, giving you a view from 600 feet up! You have the option to get wet or stay dry, thanks to special flight decks attached to the boat. This is a great activity for anyone ages 3 and up, with no athletic ability or previous parasailing experience necessary.

The remote control cars at the Put in Bay Raceway are some of the fastest cars on the island, reaching speeds of more than 50 miles per hour! For $2.00 a car, you can compete with other racers in a two and a half minute race around the oval track that’s built to scale. You don’t need a license to race these cars!

The state park may be Put in Bay’s best kept secret, offering one of the best views of Lake Erie that PIB island has to offer. Created in 1895 and located on the 6.5-acre Gibraltar Island at Put in Bay, Frantz Theodore Stone Laboratory is Ohio's Lake Erie laboratory. It is the nation's oldest freshwater biological field station and the Island Campus of The Ohio State University. The Laboratory offers college-level courses each summer with faculty and students coming from all over the country. Since 1990, students from 40 Ohio colleges, 27 out-of-state colleges, and 257 high schools have taken these courses for college credit. The Laboratory also provides a facility for year-round research, offers special conference facilities and speakers, and develops and offers custom-designed Aquatic Workshop programs for grades 4 through adult with over 5,000 participants annually.
