Put in Bay Transportation

We recommend leaving your car on the mainland, but don't worry - there's no shortage of ways to get around if you're carless. Rent a golf cart, moped or bike, hail a taxi or walk. Come on, the island's not that big!

Golf Carts, Mopeds and Bikes

The most popular and easiest way to get around Put in Bay are golf carts, mopeds and bikes. You can rent all three at Delaware Cart Rentals at the Edgewater Hotel downtown. You must be 18 to rent a cart, but anyone with a license can drive them around. Get one for the hour, day or week - they run on gas, so you don't have to worry about recharging the battery. They seat 2, 4, 6 or 8 people.

A word to the wise: Golf carts are licensed motor vehicles that are treated as cars by everyone, including the law. Under no circumstance should you have an open container in the vehicle or drive it if you've been drinking.

Taxis

For $2 or $3 a person, you can get a taxi ride to anywhere on Put in Bay island. Downtown is swarming with taxis, so you should never have problem finding one. We recommend Island Club Taxis or North Coast Cabs. The drivers are super friendly and extremely knowledgeable about Put in Bay. You never have to wait long for them to pick you up either. Ask about group rates.
