Put-in-Bay Swim Sail Program

The Put-in-Bay Community Swim Sail program includes swimming and sailing lessons for students aged 4 to 18*. Younger children will learn swimming skills and safety, while older students will learn boat handling, sailing, and water safety held at the Put-in-Bay Yacht Club.

Costs for swimming swim sail classes (both youth and endurance) are $105 per child. Costs for sailing classes (8 years and older as of August 1st) are $510 with options to add evening endurance and/ or race team participation for an additional fee. Each student in the Swimming Program will be placed in a level that is appropriate to their swimming ability. This will be determined during a swimming pre-test that will occur in the first few days that the Swimming Program starts in June.

For those who want to learn how to sail, there is a program for that. Various classes and levels are designed for those who are curious about sailboat racing or interested in joining the Race Team down the line. Students will sail Optimists and/or 420s. The primary focus of the class will be basic racing skills and tactics. In order to be eligible for this class, sailors must have at least 1 year of sailing experience or boating. SOS stands for Start Opti Sailing. This will be a one-week program for children aged 5 to 7 who will eventually be part of the learn to sail program.

The goal of this class is to get kids comfortable with the water, sailboats, and learn some sailing and water safety basics. They will not actually be sailing. Many other yacht clubs have similar programs, and we believe this is a great way to introduce the sport to our future sailors. The may well be the sailor in the Put-in-Bay Regatta Weekends of the future! Children must be 4 by August 1st, 2019 to participate in the youth swimming lessons, and 5 by August 1st, 2019 for the SOS (Start Opti Sailing) program. Sailing lessons are available to children 8 years or older as of August 1st, 2019.
