Community Groups play a large part in keeping Put-in-Bay on South Bass Island a place of peace and beauty. Through their dedicated efforts, the land is set aside for the non-commercial use by residents and tourists and allows the development of wildlife and flora and fauna. Put-in-Bay is blessed to have a wide variety of nature trails, hiking and biking paths and green space set aside for the enjoyment of all.
Our Community Groups also play an important role in the interaction among islanders both in the busy summer season as in the quiet winter months.
One of the very popular community groups is the Put-in-Bay Senior Center which provides activities to Put-in-Bay Seniors including physical fitness programs, wellness counseling and organized trips to various Ohio locations. The Put-in-Bay Senior Citizens Center is located in downtown Put-in-Bay near the school and library.
The American Legion is another of the many valued Put-in-Bay Community Groups which maintains an active chapter in the Lake Erie Islands. They are frequently involved in numerous patriotic ceremonies on the island.
The Put-in-Bay Volunteer Fire Department is one of our most visible and important community groups.
They provided an invaluable service to the residents and visitors to Put-in-Bay. These dedicated individuals undergo extensive training in order to provide firefighting and many other first responder services to the island. They play an important role in many activities here on the island both viable and behind the scenes. They rely on fundraisers and community support to actively run the department. Check out the Put-in-Bay Events schedule and try the clambake which is an annual event and one not to be missed! They also host some very popular pancake breakfasts!
