The Antique Car Museum at Put-in-Bay, part of Perry’s Cave Family Fun Center, houses vintage snowmobiles and Model T Fords that any car fan visiting the island would be impressed with. Join the Put-in-Bay crowd every Sunday at 2:00 p.m. to enjoy the South Bass Island’s antique car parade by heading to downtown Put-in-Bay.

Put-in-Bay Aquatic Center

The Aquatic Visitors Center in Put-in-bay, Ohio, offers free Put-in-Bay fishing equipment and a public dock to fish off of with no license needed. It’s a great place to take the kids to learn about South Bass Island marine life, with live fish displays, hands-on exhibits, videos, a playroom, activities and the former state hatchery. Kids will learn while they’re having fun on the island. Admission to the center is free from late May through September. This location is one of the favorites of kids on the island.

Put-in-Bay Butterfly House

Part of Perry’s Cave, one of Put-in-Bay’s most family-friendly attractions on the island, the Butterfly House at Put In Bay gives island visitors the opportunity to interact with more than 500 different types of butterflies that have been brought to South Bass Island from around the world. For only $7 ($4 for kids), you can relax in the butterfly garden for as long as you’d like.

Put-in-Bay DiRivera Park

DiRivera Park in downtown Put-in-Bay, OH, offers a beautiful view of the Put-in-Bay harbor and Delaware Avenue. There’s no better place to sit and relax after a busy day at the bay. Picnic tables make for a great place to bring lunch (bring it from home or pick it up from a place in the island’s downtown). Kids will have a blast on the playground or climbing on the cannon monuments. The bathhouse is open to the public if you’re in need of a quick shower. One of the prettiest parks on the island.

Put-in-Bay Fort Amaze’n

South Bass Island may not be a big place, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get lost in it! Visitors to Fort Amaze’n are challenged to find their way out of this maze, which is reconfigured and changed over time. Race your friends and family or try to beat your best time at this challenging Put-in-Bay attraction on the island! Admission is $4.50 the first time around, and $2.50 after. Put-in-Bay Gemstone Mining

Gemstone Mining at Perry’s Cave Family Fun Center is another great way for kids to learn while having fun on the Ohio Islands. Once you sift through a bag of rough mix ($4-$9), you’ll uncover real gemstones and fossils. Another island attraction at the Gemstone Mining is the geode cutter, which slices uncut geodes right in front of you.

Put-in-Bay Historical Museum

The Lake Erie Islands Historical Society Museum offers a comprehensive history of not only Put-in-Bay and South Bass Island, but all the other Lake Erie islands too. The museum’s three buildings showcase information on winemaking at the bay, the Hotel Victory’s rise and fall, Put-in-Bay genealogy and the ships that have sailed Lake Erie. On top of this, the historical society sponsors tours, children’s events, Elderhostel’s and lectures. Admission to this Put-in-Bay attraction is $4 for individuals or $3 for seniors and children under 5 are free.

Kimberly’s Carousel

For only $1.50, you can take a ride on Put-in-Bay’s original 1917 Herschel carousel, one of the last merry-go-rounds in the country that’s still up and running. Kids love riding the cow, chicken, rooster, horse and pig, but any islander will tell you that Put-in-Bay’s favorite animal on the carousel is Pete the Perch. You can buy tickets next door at the Carriage House.

Ohio State University Stone Labs at Put-in-Bay

Created in 1895 and located on the 6.5-acre Gibraltar Island at Put in Bay, Frantz Theodore Stone Laboratory is Ohio’s Lake Erie laboratory. It is the nation’s oldest freshwater biological field station and the Island Campus of The Ohio State University. The Laboratory offers college-level courses each summer with faculty and students coming from all over the country. Since 1990, students from 40 Ohio colleges, 27 out-of-state colleges, and 257 high schools have taken these courses for college credit. The Laboratory also provides a facility for year-round research, offers special conference facilities and speakers, and develops and offers custom-designed Aquatic Workshop programs for grades 4 through adult with over 5,000 participants annually.

Perry’s Cave at Put-in-Bay

Perry’s Cave, located 50 feet below Put-in-Bay, is open to island visitors for 20-minute tours. South Bass Island’s secret limestone cave is 208 feet long and 165 feet wide and has its own freshwater lake underneath Lake Erie. We suggest bringing a sweatshirt and comfortable walking shoes, as the temperature underground drops to about 50 degrees.

Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial

The Perry Peace Memorial and Visitors Center on Put-in-Bay was built in honor of Oliver Hazard Perry, who defeated the British in a huge naval battle on Lake Erie that played a key role in the American victory in the War of 1812. Today visitors to Put-in-Bay can travel 317 feet up to the top of the monument to take in a spectacular view of the Lake Erie Islands and the shores of Ohio, Michigan, and Ontario. At the base of the monument, Put in Bay park rangers give living history demonstrations. Admission to the park visitor’s center is free. The memorial column itself is closed for restoration (admission ticket to get to the top is usually $3.00).

Put-in-Bay Raceway

The remote control cars at the Put in Bay Raceway are some of the fastest cars on the Lake Erie Islands, reaching speeds of more than 50 miles per hour! For $2.00 a car, you can compete with other racers in a two and a half minute race around the oval track that’s built to scale. You don’t need a license to race these cars!

Put-in-Bay Yacht Club

The Put-in-Bay Yacht Club (PIBYC) is located on South Bass Island in the western end of Lake Erie. They are dedicated to promoting all forms of yachting, power boating, sailing, and other aquatic sports. Annual Put-in-Bay events include cruise outs, picnics, parties, and numerous other social functions. PIBYC is host to the Inter-Lake Yachting Association (I-LYA) Annual Regatta and other national and international sailing events. Put-in-Bay Yacht Club is also a member of the Associated Yacht Clubs (AYC); members are encouraged to participate in AYC sailing and cruising events.

Saunders Resort Golf Course

This 9-hole par-3 course with a beautiful view of Lake Erie and the nearby Ohio Islands is a great deal at only $10. If you left your clubs at home, don’t worry there are some available for rent for an additional $10. Saunders is the only golf course on Put-in-Bay. Snacks and refreshments are for sale inside.

South Bass Island State Park

The state park on South Bass Island may be Put-in-Bay’s best-kept secret, offering one of the best views of Lake Erie that PIB Island has to offer. On top of that, visitors can enjoy Jet Ski rentals, a stone beach, a playground, glacial grooves, a refreshment stand, volleyball, the ruins of the Hotel Victory, fishing pier and umbrella picnic tables.

Stonehenge Historic Tour

A visit to South Bass Island, Put in Bay isn’t complete without a visit to Stonehenge. Heineman Winery Put-in-Bay

In 1897, workers at Heineman’s Winery discovered what would later be identified as the world’s largest geode, right on the island. Now visitors to the Put-in-Bay can share the wonderment on guided tours, offered daily for $6 for adults and $3 for children.
